American Stromboli Recipe

American Stromboli Recipe

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • All-purpose flour (for dusting)

For the Filling

  • 1/2 pound deli-sliced ham
  • 1/2 pound deli-sliced pepperoni
  • 1/2 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup black olives, sliced
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce (plus extra for dipping)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Olive oil (for brushing)

Directions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a rectangular shape, about 1/4-inch thick.
  3. Spread the marinara sauce evenly over the surface of the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Layer the ham, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, onion, and black olives evenly over the sauce.
  5. Sprinkle the Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using) over the filling.
  6. Starting from one of the long edges, carefully roll up the dough, creating a tight log. Seal the edges by pinching them together.
  7. Place the stromboli seam side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Brush the top of the stromboli with a little olive oil.
  9. Using a sharp knife, make a few shallow slits on the top of the stromboli to allow steam to escape during baking.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes, or until the stromboli is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
  11. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
  12. Serve warm slices with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
